Skilled Mason – Waterproofing Works
The Waterproofing Mason executes high-quality masonry works essential to waterproofing systems, including screeds, protection layers, blockwork, and plastering for roofs, podiums, basements, pools, and retaining walls. This hands-on role ensures proper slopes, levels, thicknesses, and finishes that protect membranes from damage while maintaining structural integrity and watertight performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and apply cementitious screeds, protection layers, and blinding layers over waterproofing membranes to specified thicknesses and slopes.
- Construct blockwork, dwarf walls, and kerbs around protected areas (podiums, roofs, pools) with precise alignment and waterproofing compatibility.
- Plaster and render surfaces in wet areas, basements, and retaining walls to achieve smooth, crack-free finishes ready for membrane application.
- Set out lines, levels, and falls for drainage slopes on roofs, podiums, and balconies using dumpy levels and straightedges.
- Coordinate with waterproofing technicians and supervisors to sequence screeding/protection works without damaging membranes.
- Install joint fillers, coving, and fillets at membrane terminations, penetrations, and movement joints.
- Conduct basic quality checks for levelness, compaction, curing, and screed thickness before protection layers.
- Follow method statements, drawings, and safety protocols for working at heights, chemical exposure, and heavy lifting.
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum 3 years as a mason in waterproofing, civil, or pool construction projects in UAE/GCC.
- Strong expertise in cementitious screeds, protection layers, and plastering over waterproofing membranes (torch-on, liquid, PU foam).
- Proven ability to set out slopes/falls and work to precise tolerances (±3mm over 3m).
- Familiarity with construction drawings, waterproofing details, and basic QA/QC checklists.
- Experience protecting membranes during screeding (no punctures, tears, or foot traffic damage).
- Knowledge of curing compounds, expansion joints, and compatible mortar mixes for wet environments.
- Physically fit for repetitive lifting, working at heights, and outdoor conditions.
- Organized, responsible, attentive to detail, with good communication skills.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Grade 10–12)
- Vocational training in masonry, plastering, or construction finishing preferred
- Manufacturer spray training certificates highly valued
