Expert PU Foam & Polyurea Applicator
The Waterproofing Technician – Spray-Applied PU Foam and Polyurea is responsible for applying spray-applied polyurethane foam and polyurea systems to protect structures from water ingress and provide durable protective coatings. The role covers surface preparation, accurate mixing and spraying, thickness and quality control, and basic maintenance of application equipment. The technician must follow manufacturer specifications and safety standards at all times, ensuring clean, uniform, and defect-free finishes on roofs, podiums, tanks,
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for PU foam and polyurea application (cleaning, priming, masking, and moisture checks) under supervisor guidance
- Mix and load PU foam components (A and B parts) according to manufacturer ratios and project specifications
- Apply spray-applied PU foam using hand-held dispensers or plural-component spray rigs to achieve specified thickness and density
- Spray polyurea coatings using high-pressure equipment, ensuring uniform coverage, adhesion, and wet film thickness (WFT)
- Monitor curing, expansion, and adhesion; conduct basic quality checks including DFT measurements and test samples
- Trim, shape, and finish cured foam/polyurea as required for detailing around penetrations, edges, and joints
- Maintain, clean, and perform basic troubleshooting on spray equipment, hoses, and guns to prevent downtime
- Follow all HSE protocols for chemical handling, spray operations, confined spaces, and PPE (respirators, full-body suits)
- Report material usage, defects, or site issues promptly and maintain clean work areas.
Required Skills
- Proven hands-on experience applying spray PU foam and polyurea systems (at least 1–2 years preferred)
- Knowledge of PU foam types (open/closed cell), polyurea formulations, mixing ratios, and application techniques
- Familiarity with spray equipment (plural-component rigs, heaters, guns) and basic maintenance procedures
- Ability to read technical data sheets, specifications, and basic waterproofing details
- Understanding of quality control for thickness, adhesion, and curing in PU foam/polyurea systems
- Strong awareness of HSE requirements for spray-applied chemicals and high-pressure operations
- Good physical fitness for working at heights, confined spaces, and handling equipment
- Attention to detail, responsible approach, and good communication skills
Qualifications
- No formal degree required; specialist spray applicator training essential
- Spray equipment manufacturer certifications training strongly preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Grade 10–12 acceptable)
