• The water feature was directly connected to a retaining wall adjacent to planted areas
• Deck slabs had embedded lighting and drainage points requiring precision detailing
• Moisture control was essential to prevent dampness in adjoining indoor areas
• Sloped surfaces required crack-bridging and flexible waterproofing systems
• Waterproofing had to be completed prior to tile and timber finish installations
1. Substrate Preparation & Detailing
• The concrete deck, planter walls, and water structure basins were cleaned and mechanically prepared
• All movement joints, pipe penetrations, and embedded conduits were identified and isolated for detailing
• Primer application was carried out where required to ensure maximum membrane adhesion
2. Bitumen Membrane Sheet Waterproofing – Retaining Wall External Faces
• Applied torch-bonded bitumen membranes to all external wall surfaces in contact with soil or irrigation
• Vertical overlaps and terminations were detailed with preformed collars and drip edges
• Drainage protection boards were added prior to backfilling landscaped zones
3. Cementitious Waterproofing – Water Feature & Deck Base Layer
• Applied a two-coat flexible cementitious slurry on the internal faces of the water feature and deck slabs
• Provided excellent bonding to concrete while sealing capillaries and protecting reinforcement
• Coving fillets were installed at wall-floor joints for added strength and continuity
4. Spray-Applied Polyurea Protective Coating – Top Waterproofing Layer
• A seamless polyurea membrane was hot-sprayed at 2 mm DFT across the water feature basin, deck slabs, and planter interiors
• Delivered fast curing, UV resistance, and high elasticity across large exposed surfaces
• Special attention was given to floor drains, scupper outlets, and junction transitions
5. Drainage Integration
• Drainage outlets were detailed with built-in collars integrated into the polyurea layer
• Deck slopes were checked and adjusted prior to finishing works to ensure proper surface drainage
Systems Applied: Bitumen Membrane Sheet Waterproofing, Cementitious Waterproofing Solutions and Spray-Applied Polyurea Protective Coatings
The waterproofing wascompleted on time and successfully passed a 48-hour flood test of the waterfeature and deck. The villa's landscaped areas and structural surfaces werefully protected against moisture ingress from both above and below. Tiling andcladding proceeded without delay, and the client received a robust, long-termsolution for their premium outdoor living space.
